My name is Maria and I am currently 18 years young, living in Birmingham.
I attend University and am starting a course named 'Fashion and Textiles'.
I started a love for fashion at a young age, drawing womens clothes and matching them with other clothing. I liked colour and art and took a further interest into secondary school. I was highly discouraged of my ability while at secondary school, which lead to an academic decrease. However, I moved schools in year 9 and boosted up my grades, and somewhat my confidence. When I met somebody with similar interests to me everything changed, in her own way she helped me with my designing- not consciously, but by discouraging my drawing skills and ensuring the whole year thought I was a copy and a fraud, she actually enabled me to pick myself up and think, you know what? I like fashion, I am creative, and I WILL be a fashion designer.
So that's my background. From there I took Art and Design, which I used to further my skills and complete an A-Level in textiles. After many ups and downs, ups usually through coursework and moodboards, and downs through examinations and making, I finally passed and was able to get through University interviews with a portfolio of my work (will post soon).
I started this blog in the hope to capture the minds of the young and the fashion lovers. I have a unique approach to things as I believe fashion is for everybody, not just the tall, model figures, but for the different shapes and sizes. I began my interest in fashion with projects relating to plus size, since dealing with weight issues from a young age, which grew to an interest in other issues such as environmental impact (resulting in projects of fashion items made from recycled materials and trash), and cultural issues- such as prom and wedding dresses to meet the needs of clients which culture means they must cover up their arms or heads due to religious and traditional purposes.
So if you are interested in the world of fashion- obviously the generic, but also the unique fashion like catwalk trends and those that meet the needs of varied personas, then this is the blog for you. Reaching out to those who aren't the richest or skinniest people in the world, this blog should help you with finding affordable fashions, and the right fashion for you. Feel free to follow and add me to your reading list, I will do the same.
